The first step in securing your email account is using strong and unique password.

So what’s the perfect or hack proof password that I can choose ?. Another common question is how do i remember so many passwords ?.

There is nothing like a perfect password. There are some tools that generate strong passwords. Passwords managers are helpful in remembering your passwords.

You could use them but change the passwords regularly. First of all you need to understand the difference between a Strong passwords, Medium passwords and Weak passwords.

Strong passwords vs Medium passwords vs Weak passwords

Weak Password – Consists of lowercase characters. Example – password. These are the short passwords that might be your name, DOB, combination of name and your year of birth etc.

Most of the people also choose passwords from dictionary, choose pet names, travel destinations etc. Therefore choosing a weak password allows hackers to guess and crack the password very easily. The good part here is the email providers won’t accept the weak passwords anymore.

Medium Password– Medium passwords are usually mix of characters and numbers. Example – Passw0rd. They are lengthier than weak passwords (1 – 7 characters).

However medium passwords are not hack proof. There are few applications that accept medium passwords but have a habit of changing the passwords at least every 2 months or so. Adding some more mix of special characters and numbers to medium password will make it secure.

Strong Password –  It’s a mix of upper and lower case letters, numbers, symbols, and even non-keyboard characters. Example – Pa$$w0rd@2017!.

Strong passwords are unique passwords and more than eight characters in length. This makes it difficult for hackers who typically use a tool to crack the passwords.

The tool checks for the password from the dictionary files used as a source. Most of all change your password regularly.
