Steps for Upgrading Right Click Tools

If you use Right Click Tools for Configuration Manager, I will demonstrate the steps to upgrade Right Click Tools to the latest version in a few easy steps. I will also demonstrate the steps for upgrading Right Click Tools to Version 5.0.

Recast Software regularly updates the Right Click Tools and their other products. You can check the changelog for each update to see what has been improved upon or fixed. New features and improvements are usually listed in the changelogs.

Customers can get the latest version of Recast products by taking a few easy steps. Upgrading to the latest release of Right Click Tools lets you take advantage of new features, performance improvements, and bug fixes.

Right Click Tools by Recast Software have been around for many years now, and I regularly use these tools in my ConfigMgr lab. I can tell you from my experience, they really save your time and increase your productivity. If you are running an older version of Right Click Tools in your setup, upgrading them to the latest version is always recommended. When you upgrade Right Click Tools, the upgraded version contains new features, improvements, and fixes over the previous release.

Whenever there is an update for any of the Recast software products, for instance, Right Click Tools, customers will see a Recast Software Update notification upon launching the Right Click Tools.

The below screenshot shows an example of a Recast software update notification. A new version of Right Click Tools is available. The release notes contain a list of all the new features, bug fixes, and improvements.

In my ConfigMgr lab, I am running an older version of Right Click Tools 4.8.2207.1001. I will be upgrading the Right Click Tools to the latest version, which is 4.9.2207.1301.

Steps to Upgrade Right Click Tools

Let’s look at the procedure to upgrade Right Click Tools to the latest version. First, you have to log in to the Recast Software portal and download the latest version of Right Click Tools.

Sign in to the Recast Software Portal and on the dashboard, you should see the current versions of your active subscriptions. Click on the download icon to get the latest version of RCT which is 4.9.2207.1301.

Copy this new RCT installer on to the server which has the older version of Right Click Tools installation. Double-click the RCT installation file.

Note: You don’t have to uninstall the old version of Right Click Tools in order to upgrade. Just launch the new RCT installer, and the setup wizard will update your installation to the most recent version.

On the Welcome screen of the Right-Click Tools setup wizard, click Next.

In this step, you can either sign in with your Recast Software account to download the license or use the Browse for License option and select a valid license file. This step verifies if you are licensed to use the Right Click Tools in your organization. Click Install.

Close the Right Click Tools setup wizard.

Verify Right Click Tools Version

After the RCT upgrade, you may want to check the version. There are many ways to verify the installed version of Right Click Tools. I’ll demonstrate the simplest technique; click Start, and then, to open the tool, type “Configure Recast RCT” into the search box. The upgraded tool’s version, which is 4.9.2207, can be found in the General tab. This confirms that we have successfully upgraded Right Click Tools to the latest version.

In Programs and Features, you can check the installed version of Right Click Tools to see if the upgrade has been successful. After updating the RCT, the Server does not need to be restarted.

Upgrading Right Click Tools to Version 5.0

Recast Software Version 5.0 has been released and upgrading to this version lets you take advantage of new features, performance improvements and bug fixes. According to Recast Software, version 5.0 of Right Click Tools, Recast Management Server and Recast Proxy can be installed in place over the existing version. Recast Agents should be uninstalled before updating the Recast Management Server and Recast Agent software.

To upgrade Right Click Tools version 4.9.2207 to 5.0, you will require the latest RCT installer that can be downloaded from the Recast Software Portal. Run the new RCT installer on the server running the older version of Right Click Tools. On the setup screen, click Next.

The old version of Right Click Tools are upgraded to the latest version 5.0. Close the Recast console extension setup wizard.

Launch the Configuration Manager console and go to Assets and Compliance workspace. Here you’ll find a dedicated node called Recast Software. The first thing you’ll notice is the new look of the Right Click Tools 5.0, especially the icons.

From the Recast Software node, you can launch Configure Recast and this shows the Right Click Tools version which is 5.0.2302.
