In this post, I will show you how to check the history of updates installed for SCCM. In the Configuration Manager console, you can find the list of updates and hotfixes that you have installed since the installation.
When you plan to install Configuration Manager on your site, you typically use a baseline media that contains the setup files required for installation. However, you do this only once and then Configuration Manager uses an in-console service method called Updates and Servicing.
After you install the SCCM using baseline media, the Configuration Manager discovers new updates for you. From the Updates and Servicing node of the console, you install the updates and hotfixes for the sites.
Very few administrators know about this secret trick to find the history of updates and hotfixes installed in SCCM. The Updates and Servicing node of the console offers an option known as “History” that shows a list of updates, including hotfixes, that have been installed thus far.
Check History of Updates installed for SCCM
Perform these steps to find out the list of updates and hotfixes installed for SCCM:
- Launch the Configuration Manager console.
- Go to Administration\Overview\Updates and Servicing.
- Right-click the Updates and Servicing node and select History. You may also select the history option from the top ribbon.
The above steps will work on both current branch installations and technical preview installations of Configuration Manager.
The history window displays a list of updates, hotfixes, and roll-ups that are installed for SCCM. The following history details about the updates are shown to the SCCM administrator:
- Name: Displays the name of the Configuration Manager update.
- State: Shows whether the update was installed or skipped.
- Description: The description of the update, including the KB number of the hotfix.
- Last Update Time: The time when the update was checked in the console.
From the history data, you can find out the hotfixes that were installed for SCCM and the ones that were skipped for installation. In the same list, you should also find the out-of-band updates that were imported using the SCCM update registration tool.
Use Filter to search for Updates and Hotfixes
On the history window, there is a filter option, which is a search box to find out if a specific update or a hotfix was installed or skipped. When you have a long list of installed updates, use the filter option to find the details quickly.
Find hotfix installed for a specific version of SCCM
In the history window, you can also find the hotfixes installed for a specific version of SCCM. For example, let’s say you want to find out the hotfixes that were installed for version 2309. To accomplish that, enter ‘2309‘ in the search box, and you will see all the hotfixes installed for that 2309 version of Configuration Manager.
If the history data is blank in SCCM console, it means either your installation is very new or you haven’t installed any updates or hotfixes.
