Possible Reasons why Snagit Crashes or Stops Working

Snagit application crashes are common, and the Snagit documentation site contains a plethora of problem codes and solutions. The following are some major reasons why the Snagit application may crash on your Windows computer:

  1. Corrupt Installer: You might have correctly installed the Snagit application on your computer, however, a corrupted version of the core Snagit executable could cause the programme to crash.
  2. Corrupted files or settings: If Snagit’s installation files or settings become corrupted, the application may crash. Try uninstalling and reinstalling the application to fix any corrupted files or settings.
  3. Outdated version of Snagit: From my experience, I can tell you that Techsmith releases several updates for Snagit throughout the year. If your Snagit application is crashing while using, ensure that you are using the latest version of Snagit and your operating system is up-to-date.
  4. 4K Monitor Support for Snagit: Snagit crashing is commonly seen when having many monitors connected to your computer or using multiple 4K monitors. Snagit currently supports using 2–3 monitors or a single 4K monitor.
  5. Insufficient system resources: Snagit is a resource-intensive application that requires a significant amount of processing power and memory. If your system does not have sufficient resources, Snagit may crash. Try closing other applications that you are not using or upgrading your hardware.
  6. Conflicting software: Sometimes, other software installed on your system may conflict with Snagit, leading to crashes. Try disabling other software running in the background or uninstalling conflicting software.
  7. Hardware failure: In some cases, Snagit may crash due to a hardware failure, such as a failing hard drive or RAM module. Run hardware diagnostics to ensure that all components are functioning correctly.
