Microsoft released Configuration Manager Technical Preview 2411. Support for Windows 11 24H2 and Windows Server 2025, improved security for CMG, and software metering for Arm64 devices are among the new features in this release.
Technical Preview version 2411 is the third technical preview of year 2024, and its release comes just before the current branch 2409. Previous TP releases were version 2401 and version 2405 and this is as per the release schedule introduced by Microsoft.
Technical Preview Branch releases give you an opportunity to try out new Configuration Manager features in a test environment before they are made generally available. It is also worth mentioning that starting with SCCM technical preview version 2411, the evaluation period has been extended from 180 days to 360 days.
Configuration Technical Preview 2411 New Features
With version 2411 of Configuration Manager, the following new features have been added:
- Windows 11 24H2 & Windows Server 2025 are added to the product lifecycle dashboard and supported platform.
- Windows 11 24H2 & Windows Server 2025 Client support is added.
- Boot image creation in SCCM on Windows Server 2025 now supports latest Windows ADK
- The Windows upgrade readiness dashboard now supports Windows 11 24H2 for upgrading clients.
- SQL 2012 and 2014 support are deprecated
- Configuration Manager now supports software metering for Arm64 devices.
- Enhanced Security for CMG.
Download 2411 baseline version for Technical Preview
Update 2411 for Technical Preview Branch is available in the Microsoft Configuration Manager Technical Preview console. For new installations, the 2411 baseline version of Microsoft Configuration Manager Technical Preview Branch is available on the link: CM2405TP-Baseline or from Eval center
Installing Technical Preview 2411 Update
In the Configuration Manager console, go to Administration\Overview\Updates and Servicing. Right-click Configuration Manager Technical Preview 2411 update and select Install Update Pack.
You can ignore the prerequisite check warnings and directly install the update. Click Next.
On the client update options tab, select a way to update the configuration manager client. Since this is a technical preview build, you can go with Upgrade without validating it. Click Next.
On the License Terms tab, select I accept these license terms and privacy statement. Click Next.
Complete the remaining steps and, on the Summary window, click Next. Finally, close the Configuration Manager updates wizard.
To confirm the update 2411 is installed, go to Administration > Overview > Updates and Servicing. The technical preview update 2411 status shows as Installed.
After you install TP Update 2411, make sure you upgrade the clients to the latest version. For any errors during the upgrade, review the SCCM logs for troubleshooting.
