In this guide, I will demonstrate the steps to join Windows Server insider program that will help you explore the latest features released for Server. By becoming a member of the Insiders preview for the Server to get access to the latest server build and start testing new capabilities.
In one of my earlier guides, I showed you how to access Windows 11 insider program. With Windows Server, Microsoft has made it much easier to join their insider program and all this can be done from the Settings app.
I was motivated to join the Insiders Preview for Windows Server to gain early access to the latest features and Remote Server Administration tools. Additionally, I see this as an opportunity to contribute to shaping the future of Windows Server while staying at the forefront of technological innovation. So let’s get started.

Windows Server Insider Preview builds are pre-release versions and may have bugs. They are not intended for production use and should only be installed in test environments.
How to Join Windows Server Insider Program
Joining the Windows Server Insider Program is quick and easy. Follow these steps to get started:
Step 1: Link an account to join the program ๐
Sign in to the Windows Server. Click Start and launch the Settings app. Select Windows Update > Windows Insider Program. Click on Get Started and to associate a Windows Insider account, click Link an account.

You’ll be now prompted to sign in with your Microsoft account or Work/School account. Complete the sign-in process and proceed to the next step.

Step 2: Choose your Insider Program ๐ป
Insiders Preview for Server 2025 offers two channels to select from:
- Canary Channel: This is suitable for technical users who like to test the features that are introduced early in the development cycle. Most of these features aren’t documented, and your server builds can be unstable if you opt for this channel.
- Release Preview: Select this Insider channel to explore the latest server features before they are publicly released. This channel is highly recommended for newcomers to the Server Insider Program.
In the below example, I have opted for Release preview channel. Click Continue.

Step 3: Review and Accept Agreements ๐ค
Review the insider program agreement and privacy statement. Click Continue to agree to the terms of service for the Insider program. Click Continue.

Step 4: Restart the Windows Server ๐
You must restart the server to complete the process. Click Restart Now. After you restart the device, Windows Server will automatically install preview builds.

Step 5: Verify Insider Build for Server โ
To verify if your server is running an insider preview build, go to Windows Update > Windows Insider Program, and here you should see the installed build release, your current insider channel, and options to manage insider account settings.
I recommend regularly checking for Windows Updates to access new builds and features, ensuring you’re always testing the latest updates.

Providing Feedback ๐
Once you’ve had a chance to explore Windows Server Insider Preview Builds, go to the Feedback Hub. Share your experiences, report bugs, and suggest improvements.
What I noticed is the Feedback hub shows your current windows build, the number of feedbacks you’ve submitted and a dedicated section showing the latest releases for preview builds.
