This guide covers the steps for deploying WinRAR using Microsoft Intune. You can package and install WinRAR as a Win32 app or add it as an Enterprise App Catalog app to Microsoft Intune.
WinRAR is a well-known Windows app that opens RAR and ZIP files and is used for data compression, encryption, and archiving. The app is also compatible with many other file formats, including ISO and TAR files.
Enterprises looking to mass deploy WinRAR can use methods such as Group Policy, Configuration Manager, or Microsoft Intune. All these methods are applicable only for Windows devices. Here is a guide to deploy WinRAR with license file using Configuration Manager.
In this guide, we will add WinRAR app via the Enterprise App Catalog in Intune. This app type leverages the Win32 platform and has support for customizable capabilities. Another advantage of using this approach is the WinRAR app is automatically updated in the background to the latest version.

Follow the below steps to add the WinRAR app from the Intune Enterprise app catalog and install it on Windows devices.
First, sign in to the Microsoft Intune Admin Center. Go to Apps > Windows and select Add. In the Select app type pane, click on the drop-down and select the Enterprise App Catalog app.

The install and uninstall commands generated by Intune for the WinRAR app deployment are described below.
#WinRAR Install command
"winrar-x64-700.exe" /s

After configuring the above details, click Next.
The requirements tab is where you specify the minimum OS architecture and the version of Windows that the devices must meet before the app installs. Define the requirements and click Next.
It’s so helpful that Intune has filled in the detection rules for the WinRAR app. Review the detection rules once and click Next.
On the Assignments tab, you have three options for assigning the WinRAR app to users or devices:
- Required: The WinRAR app is installed on devices in the selected groups.
- Available for enrolled devices: Users install the app from the Company Portal app.
- Uninstall: The WinRAR app is uninstalled from devices in the selected groups.
You can test the WinRAR app deployment in Intune with a pilot group, and once it works, you can scale it up to a larger set of users or devices. Once you have finalized the assignments, click Next.
Review the values and settings that you entered for the WinRAR app. Verify that you configured the app information correctly. Click on Add App to add the WinRAR app to Intune.
