In this tutorial, I will show you how to customize the App Store in Microsoft Teams in your organization. You can make the Teams app store more user-friendly by adding your organization’s logo, a custom background, and custom text colors.
The Teams Store provides many useful apps created by third-party software developers, in addition to apps provided by Microsoft. You’ll also see a collection of top apps that all users across Teams love and use, so you’ll always know about the most popularly used apps on Teams.
You can personalize the app store in Teams for your organization so that it reflects your company’s branding. If you want to make it more welcoming for users, you may include your company’s logo, a corporate background picture, and font colors that you choose.
3 Reasons to Customize your Teams App Store
Listed below are some important reasons why customizing your organization’s app store in Microsoft Teams is beneficial for your organization.
- Company branding: Microsoft provides customization options for most of its products and dashboards. Company branding builds trust, and when you believe in your business and communicate that through your branding, people will jump on board. If I have to cite some examples of corporate branding, that would be configuring branding for Software Center and Company Portal branding in Intune.
- Build User’s Trust: A user’s trust in an app store and their level of happiness with the app store are both improved when they see a trustworthy logo and color scheme.
- Encouraging users to use the Teams app store: If you are an organization that builds custom apps for your users, more users prefer to use the Teams app store to install them. By customizing the app store with your organization’s branding, it increases collaboration between people in your organization.
Customize the App Store in Microsoft Teams
You can customize the store in the MS Teams admin center by accessing Teams apps > Customize store. Let’s discuss the options that can be customized for your organization’s app store in Microsoft Teams.
1. Customize your Organization logo
When users visit the Teams app store, you can display your organization’s logo. To accomplish that, visit the Customize App Store in the Teams admin center.
Under the section Organization logo, select Choose an image and upload the file of your choice. The logo must be 240 x 60 pixels in dimension or scaled to that size. The file size limit for the logo is 5 MB. The supported logo formats are .svg, .png, and .jpg.
Once you upload the logo, there is a preview option that shows how the organization logo appears in the Teams app store. Based on the preview, you can either select another logo with an appropriate color and size or finalize the logo by clicking Save.
Finally, the logo displays in the top-right corner of the app catalog in the Teams store. The logo you select appears in the Teams client in Apps > Built for your org page.
2. Configure the Organization logomark
The next option that you can customize is the logomark for your organization. A logomark is an image or symbol that represents your organization’s brand and doesn’t include the name of your organization. The logomark that you specify will appear on the Teams app store page.
Under the section Organization logomark, select the option Choose an image. Select an image file for the logomark. Click the Preview option to view how the logomark looks in the Microsoft Teams app store. Select Save to save your changes.
3. Customize the background Color and Image
In this section, I will show you how to configure the background color and image of the header in the Teams App Store for your organization. The background image or color is used as the background for the top banner in the Teams app catalog.
You must choose a background image/color that has enough contrast with the text, so the users can read it clearly. The background appears in the Teams client in Apps > Built for your org header.
There are three options available here:
- Use Teams client default theme background (default): This will honor the theme background of the Teams client and set it as the header color of the app store.
- Choose an image: When you select the background picture, you can upload the file of your choice. The background must be 1212 x 100 pixels, or it’s scaled to that size. The file size of the image must be less than 5 MB. The supported formats are .svg, .png, and .jpg.
- Choose a custom background: When you select Choose a custom color, a color chooser opens. Select the color that you want by adjusting the scale of the color chooser.
4. Customize the text color of your organization name
The last option for customizing the Teams app store is to define the text color of your name. You must specify enough contrast in the text color as compared to the background so that the users can read the name of your organization clearly. The text color that you define appears in the Teams client in Apps > Built for your org header.
There are two options for customizing the text color of your organization’s name:
- Use the Teams app font color (default)
- Choose a custom text color
When you select Choose a custom color, a color chooser opens. Select the color that you want by adjusting the scale of the color chooser.
When attempting to choose a text color, you may encounter the following error: “You can’t use a default background with a custom text color.” This appears because you selected the option Use Teams client default theme background (default) under the Background image section. To resolve this, set the custom background color in the Background image section, and now you can specify a custom text color for your organization’s name.
When you have customized the above options, click Save to save the changes. These customizations will be visible to users when they browse the Teams Apps Store on their device. Any App store customizations that you do may take up to 24 hours to display in Teams for users.
Please note that any of the customization options can be changed or removed at any time using the Microsoft Teams Admin center.
