The primary advantage of enabling the AD integration for Advanced Insights is you can avoid using the default admin account for signing in and instead use an AD account. Furthermore, if users have an RBAC role defined in Configuration Manager, Advanced Insights will follow that role, displaying only the clients they are authorized to see.
Enable Active Directory Integration for Advanced Insights
Turning on the AD integration for Advanced Insights is very easy. First, launch the Advanced Insights tool and sign in to the portal with your admin credentials. Navigate to Administration > Settings > User management.
Under Active Directory Settings, check box the option ‘Enable Active Directory Authentication.’ This enables additional options for configuring the authentication.
Next, enter the Active Directory domain name. Patch My PC says entering the domain name data is optional. That is because the Advanced Insights server only needs to have its domain name entered if the authenticating domain is different from the one in which it is installed.
Specify the username and password that will be used to connect to Active Directory. If you don’t specify a username and password, the computer account of the Advanced Insights server will be used to authenticate Active Directory requests. Click the Save All button to save the configurations.
To test if the AD authentication is working, sign out from the Advanced Insights portal. Refresh the portal and on the login page, sign in using a different Active Directory user account. You’ll now see that the portal will accept those credentials.
Once you’re logged in with your AD user account, the user details are logged under Administration > Users.
