In this post, I will show you how to configure telemetry settings for SCOM. In the operations manager console, you can enable or disable the diagnostics and utility data that is sent to Microsoft.

By default, SCOM (Operations Manager) is configured to send the diagnostic and connectivity data to Microsoft. Microsoft uses this data to provide and improve the quality, security, and integrity of Microsoft products and services. Administrators can turn off this feature at any time.

The telemetry options in SCCM are more detailed when compared to Operations manager. Configuration Manager provides three levels of diagnostics and usage data to choose from, whereas SCOM allows you to just turn on or off the telemetry data.

When you send the usage data to Microsoft, they never use this information to identify you, contact you, or develop advertising. Before you configure the telemetry settings for SCOM, I recommend reading the article by Microsoft that covers the SCOM telemetry data collected by Microsoft.

Enable or Disable Telemetry for SCOM

Let’s see how you can turn on or off the telemetry data in the SCOM console. Launch the Operations Manager console and select the Administration workspace. Scroll down and select Settings.

On the right pane, right-click Privacy and select Properties.

On the Privacy Settings window, select the Diagnostic and Usage Data Settings tab. Here you get two telemetry options to choose from:

  • To turn on telemetry, select Yes, I am willing to send data to Microsoft.
  • To turn off telemetry, select No, I prefer not to send data to Microsoft.

Select the desired option and click Apply and OK.

You do not need to restart the operations manager server, but I recommend closing and relaunching the SCOM console for the changes to take effect.
