In this tutorial, I will show you how to remove a device from your Microsoft account. If you have too many old devices linked to your Microsoft account, they can be removed with easy steps.
Adding a device to your Microsoft account helps you see its warranty status, get support or request service. Linking your Hotmail or Outlook account with your device is highly recommended when you purchase a new PC or a laptop. Another advantage is that you can also find or lock your device if it’s lost.
Microsoft allows you to remove the devices associated with your account. When you sign in to Windows 11 or 10 with your Microsoft account, those devices are associated with your account.
Unlinking a device from your Microsoft account should be done when you aren’t using those old devices any more. The old devices here could be your virtual machines or physical devices such as PCs or laptops. Moreover, if you have joined insider program on Windows 11, you may want to disassociate several devices that you had signed up for earlier.
How does Microsoft link your account to the device?
Adding a device to your Microsoft account is quick and easy. When you sign in to a Microsoft account, the computer you’re using becomes linked to your account. Once the device is linked to your account, it is added under account.microsoft.com/devices. The sign-in can be done at the time of installing Windows 11 or even after you log in to Windows 11.
Linking a device with your Microsoft account is not compulsory and you can use Windows 11 normally. However, switching from a local account to a Microsoft account provides more benefits.
