In this guide, I’ll explain how to enable or disable Copilot in the Notepad app for Windows 11. The AI features help you work more efficiently in Notepad, but you can disable it if you don’t plan to use it.
With the Notepad version 11.2401.25.0, Microsoft introduced a new feature known as ‘Explain with Copilot AI‘. This feature uses AI to help users understand and gain insights into text, log files, and code segments.
The latest Copilot AI features for Notepad include the Rewrite and Summarize features. These two features help shorten and refine text with the help of GPT.

Rewrite helps you enhance clarity, refine tone, or adjust the length of your content, allowing for seamless improvements in your writing. Summarize efficiently condenses lengthy text into concise overviews, highlighting essential points from documents, notes, or articles to simplify your workflow.
Note: The Copilot AI features in Notepad comes with a cost. Microsoft 365 Personal and Family Subscribers get 60 AI credits per month, while Copilot Pro Subscribers receive extensive usage of AI features. If you are a Microsoft 365 subscriber, you can view the remaining AI credits via the AI Credit Balance button in the profile menu.

If AI features in the Notepad app aren’t needed, you can disable them in the settings. However, if you subscribe to M365 and wish to take advantage of its benefits, you can re-enable the AI features through the Notepad app settings.
